Al-Fara’a and Jerash integrated watershed management project consists of two
studies in two locations on both sides of the Jordan River: Al-Fara’a and
Jerash watersheds. Both studies are aimed at developing integrated watershed
management plans for the two locations in the West Bank and Jordan. Al-Fara’a
integrated watershed management study is conducted by the Palestinian
Environment Quality Authority (EQA) which received financial support from the
environmental partnership program of the European Union (SMAP) and the Dutch
Ministry of Environment (VROM). The Dutch Consulting Engineers (NEDECO) provide
the technical assistance for the project and the United Nations University
(UNU) through its experts in member universities deliver consulting services to
EQA for this project.
Developing an integrated watershed management plan requires collecting and
analyzing all available information and data regarding the watershed under
consideration. Therefore, during the first phase of this project all available
data and information concerning Al-Fara’a watershed were collected and
analyzed. Based on the data and information collected a baseline study report
was developed and produced by the project team. The baseline report established
the baseline conditions regarding the physical, socio-economic, legal and
institutional systems in the watershed.
